Griffdon Engineering Powers Up with 48 New Jobs

A family-run electrical engineering company in Ballaghaderreen has announced the creation of 48 new jobs.

The new roles mark a significant milestone for Griffdon Engineering, a company deeply rooted in the West Roscommon community.

Official Launch by Junior Minister Alan Dillon 

The new jobs at Griffdon Engineering were officially unveiled by Junior Minister Alan Dillon this afternoon at the company's headquarters in the West Roscommon town.

Expanding Electrical Maintenance Workforce

Aside from its recent expansion, Griffdon Engineering already employs 350 people and the new jobs will be in the electrical maintenance sector.

Supporting Multinational and High-Tech Industries 

The firm's growth will boost local employment as well as enhance skills in the electrical service and maintenance sector. Griffdon Engineering’s expansion aims to capitalise on the growing need for support among multinationals in the tech, pharmaceuticals and agrifood industries.

Serving Semiconductor, Renewable Energy, and ICT Sectors 

The company also provides services to semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries, the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors, and ICT firms involved in data centre construction. Founded in 2001 by Martin and Mary Griffin, the company’s managing director is their son Seamus while daughter Elayne is the health, safety, environmental and quality director.

Family Leadership and European Growth

The siblings took over the running of the company in 2017 and since then, the company has grown considerably, taking on large scale projects in Ireland and across Europe.

Community Pride and Government Support 

Seamus Griffin, director of the company, said: “This is a proud day for Griffdon Engineering, for Ballaghaderreen, and for the wider community.” At the launch, Mr Griffin highlighted the importance of regional development and the government’s continued support for local industry and job creation.

New Training Centre for Mechanical and Electrical Trades

During his visit to Ballaghaderreen today, Minister Dillon, who has responsibility for Employment, Small Business and Retail, and the Circular Economy, also officially opened a €1 million training facility for mechanical and electrical trades at the Mill Business Park. The training centre has created six new jobs in the area of trainers.

Future Cast Leads Skills Development Initiative 

Led by Future Cast, the project has transformed a derelict property in the centre of Ballaghaderreen into a purpose-built training and assessment hub with state-of-the-art equipment, 16-person classrooms, and dedicated workshop spaces accommodating eight to ten learners.

Enterprise Ireland and Local Leaders Celebrate Progress 

JJ O’Hara, CEO of Future Cast said that the training centre marked a “major milestone” for Ballaghaderreen and was about creating real opportunities for local people. Enterprise Ireland is supporting the jobs creation at Griffdon Engineering and Future Cast has also helped secure the funding for these jobs.

Positive Outlook for Ballaghaderreen’s Future 

The incoming CEO of Enterprise Ireland, Jenny Melia, also spoke at the official announcement of the new jobs at Griffdon Engineering. Speaking to the Roscommon Herald, Ballaghaderreen councillor Michéal Frain said that the welcome news today was among several good news stories coming onstream over the next few months for the town.
